Chad - Gerewol Festival

The Wodaabe people, having travelled across the Sahel long distances, gather once every year for a colourful, centuries old festival during which men put on makeup, dress up and perform a series of dances and contests to attract a new wife.

Every year at the end of the rainy season, the main focus of the young men is to win the favor of the young women in the "bridal show competition". The loveliness and passion of women are sung about with expressive dance ceremonies. Competing for the title of fairest in the "Yaake" seduction dance is the highlight of the Gerewol Festival.

I camped there for 4 days and followed the preparations and the ceremonies and dances.
